For starters
I must send out huge thanks to Matt (aka Leviathant) from ETS and The NIN Hotline fame for his help with getting the initial underlying database structure nailed down via a handy-dandy Visio chart.
Also, thanks to my good friend Adam Grabowski who designed the slick record-playing-database logo and the broken record graphic that you’ll hopefully never see because you don’t do things to try and break my website. ;)
Boring stuff now
This site was born from a need to have a catalog of bootlegged recordings I’d acquired over the years of numerous bands. I decided that, to start, NIN would be an excellent candidate for piloting due to the massive touring schedule they’d endured from 2005-2009 alongside the overwhelming number of unofficial recordings to come from all those performances.
I’m still finding shows that I think are new recordings I don’t yet have, download them, rename and drop them into my archive folder only to find that the show was not a new source, nor was it one I hadn’t yet acquired.

So I started building this with the intention of only cataloging bootlegs, not live performances since that was something that seems to have been done time and time again across the internets. But I quickly found it was hard to have a site archiving recordings of live performances without a record of the performance to attach them to and to give additional data about.
That was shortly before I came across a Tweet from The NIN Hotline about finally buckling down and starting work on a live performance database. I shot Levi a PM right then and after a few more, we exchanged IM names and got to talking. Initial plans were for two separate sites which would then exchange data via a web service and function autonomously and independently of one another.
…but that was a horrible idea. Having everything in one location was the only way to make this work and doing all of this for a pet project that only one person would use was just ridiculous. So here it is. I’m excited about the site as it is and for all of the changes and updates that are planned for the coming revisions!
Stay tuned…it’s only going to get better!
